“He just wants to protect his zero. As long as he has his zero, he can say he’s the best,” remarked legendary trainer Freddie Roach when the subject of a future bouth with Floyd Mayweather was brought up. Speaking to FightHype’s own Ryan Kennedy during Wednesday’s open workout session for Manny Pacquiao, Roach shrugged off the thought of a potential showdown, sounding as if Mayweather wouldn’t even be a challenge for his star pupil.
“When you take into consideration one guy averages 15 punches a round and one guy averages 80 punches a round…(shrugs)…is the 15-punch guy going to beat the guy that throws 80,” a confident Roach would answer after Kennedy questioned whether or Pacquiao could deal with the match-up of styles, which would pit Manny’s offensive power against the seemingly impenetrable defense of the undefeated Mayweather.
When asked point blank how Pacquiao can beat Mayweather, Roach calmly replied, “Activity and he can not fight a southpaw. He can’t fight lefties. He sucks on his lefties. Zab Judah almost knocked him out…and Zab is ordinary. Pacquiao…(grins).”
