MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao is a puzzle yet to be solved.
This is how Naazim Richardson, trainer of former welterweight champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley, assesses the Filipino champion who will clash with his ward on May 7.
“This is what we live for in boxing, man. I mean, you know, we’re trying to solve one of the most difficult puzzles out there,” Richardson said in FightHype.com.
Pacquiao is set to defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight crown against Mosley in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Richardson said that a victory by Mosley, who is seen as an underdog against Pacquiao, will be considered as one of biggest accomplishments in boxing.
“What do you think the first guy who solved the Rubik’s Cube felt like, you know?” he said.
He added that Mosley has the right tools to beat Pacquiao.
“This is what we do and I think we have the athlete that can do it too,” he added.
The 8-division champ Pacquiao has become arguably the most celebrated boxing superstar in recent years.
He is currently rated by most boxing establishments, including The Ring, Sports Illustrated and ESPN, as the No. 1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world
Pacquiao outpunched even other renowned boxers like Erik Morales, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez, Miguel Cotto and Oscar de la Hoya.
The only boxer who rivals him in terms of pound-for-pound status is undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.
However, Mayweather could not fight the Filipino champion because of his recent troubles with the law.
